This past weekend, we were fortunate to have hosted my wife's sister and her husband for a visit to Falmouth. They flew in for the weekend from Denver, before heading up to Vermont.
Our goal for their brief visit? To show they why we love living in Falmouth and on the Cape.
Mission: Accomplished.
While the weather was a bit cool and very, very windy, we had a chance to show off some of our favorite spots. On Friday, we visited some of the beaches along Falmouth Heights, and stopped at Menauhant Beach. We showed them where each of us lived during the summer of 1988, and enjoyed a nice drive around Falmouth. We enjoyed lunch in Sandwich, and walked along the blustery Cape Cod Canal. The view towards the beaches in Sandwich showed that you could have surfed some of the waves!
On the way back, we stopped at Naukabout Brewery in Mashpee for some beer. The wind kept us indoors, but the beer was just as tasty. For dinner, we put some swordfish on the grill, and had some local stuffed quahogs.
Saturday morning was a trip to Chatham. We drove to Eastham, and meandered our way down to the Chatham Fish Pier. We said hi to the friendly seals, and enjoyed chowder and lobster bisque by the water. Our drive took us down to Harwich, where we enjoyed a great lunch at a restaurant fronting a marina. On the way back to Falmouth, we stopped for a beer at Bad Martha's Brewery.
Before dinner, we packed up and headed to the beach for sunset. Still windy, but just warm enough to sit on the beach for this spectacular light show. It did not disappoint.
For dinner, we made simple shrimp tacos, accompanied by some beers and some card games.
Sunday morning was nice and relaxed. We stopped for coffee at the Black Dog Cafe. We returned to our cottage, and enjoyed a leisurely walk around our neighborhood and the pond. For lunch, we visited a nearby Thai restaurant, and returned to our house to watch a bit of football. Tonight was lobster night. A very nice and indulgent way to end their brief visit.
We love showing off our cottage, our neighborhood, our pond, and our home. Falmouth really is home right now, until our next stop. While we are here, we are taking advantage of all that it offers, and we are so proud to be able to call this our home.
