U Pick 'Em Farm - Coonamessett Farm

I was searching online for a local Farm Stand where we could purchase some locally grown produce. I found Coonamessett Farm. It is not a Farm Stand, but they are a U Pick 'Em farm!

For those unfamiliar, a U Pack 'Em farm allows you to access the farm and pick whatever produce is ripe and ready. You become your own harvester.

We arrived just after they opened at 9a, and paid our $8 entry fee for access to the farm. We were given small baskets, a map of the farm, and instructions on how to harvest particular produce. Not everything was ready to harvest and they have a nice board that list the produce that was available, and their location on the farm.

We headed out to explore and harvest. The farm is beautiful, and quite large. There are separate color-coded patches where you could find specific items, as well as a collection of adorable farm animals.

We harvested some beets, cucumber, summer squash, zucchini, snap peas, and more. It was fun walking along the rows of produce, figuring out what was what, and trying to determine the best way to pick the produce.

We found some animals around the farm, including donkeys, some alpaca, lots of chickens, a tortoise, a rabbit, and more. But our favorite? The baby goats.

Our favorite spot on the farm was the blueberry patch and the raspberry bushes. We spent lots of time collecting blueberries and raspberries. We were a bit too late for strawberries, as the season is already over, and are a bit too early for blackberries.

We entered the chicken coop in the hopes of finding some eggs. Most of the roosts were full of hens laying their eggs. We did not want to bother them, so we skipped the chicken eggs this time. Thankfully they had some duck eggs in the main house, so we purchased some there.

Our harvest ended up being pretty good. A couple hours walking around the hot and humid farm was tiring, but our efforts paid off with a very nice lunch plate.
