Pima Air & Space Museum

As you drive along Interstate-10, just south of Tucson, you can see from the freeway some of the massive planes that are on display at the Pima Air & Space Museum.

This was my second visit to this amazing museum complex. Many of the planes on display are outdoors, so it's wise to visit early in the morning during Tucson's notoriously hot days. Needless to say, we did not. So, we toughed it out through 98 degree weather in mid-October.

The displays are incredibly impressive, and the multiple hangars on the property showcase a diverse range of aircraft. The highlight is hangar that honors the 390th Memorial Museum. This is an absolute must-see, and includes some touching tributes to brave WWII soldiers. In the center of this display is a B17 Flying Fortress, nicknamed I'll Be Around. The enthusiastic tour guides offer friendly assistance, and if you're not careful, you can spend all day in there reading about these massive planes and the brave men who flew in them.

The Pima Air & Space Museum is a mecca for plane enthusiasts. It is also a great way to spend a few hours and learn some amazing history. I highly recommend it for visitors to Tucson.
