Why Minneapolis?
Simple. My wife has visited 46 states, and Minnesota is one of 4 remaining. So, when considering where to visit for a quick weekend trip in September, Minneapolis was a nice choice.
We arrived to MSP on Friday evening. Just enough time to grab a rental car, and test out a Minneapolis legend: the Juicy Lucy. There are competing Juicy Lucys in Minneapolis, with both restaurants claiming to offer the 'original' (more on that in another blog post). We picked the 5-8 Club simply because of its close proximity to the airport.
I knew we were in trouble in Minneapolis once I saw this hamburger with a molten cheesy interior. This will not be a healthy weekend for us . . .
While at the 5-8, we also took part in a unique, Minnesota past-time: pull tabs. This is a midwest paper gambling game, where you purchase a bunch of pull-tabs, and do what it says: pull the tabs. If you match anything, you win. Needless to say, we lost, but our contributions actually go to charity, which is determined by each individual bar.
After our heart-damaging dinner, we drove to North Minneapolis, where we are renting a cute AirBnB. We found Tattersall distillery nearby, and enjoyed a specialty cocktail. Those hardened Minnesotans faced the chilly evening outdoors, while most of the patrons enjoyed their drinks within the confines of this really cool, industrial style building.
