Kayaks and Baseball

Paul

We finally got hold of some kayaks, thanks to my brother. The three of us took the kayaks to Jenkins Pond, and we spent 90 minutes kayaking around the pond. We got to view all the houses that we normally see on our walks, but this time from the water's perspective. Many of the homes have docks, with some fun toys - boats, kayaks, canoes, water trampolines, and more. If we had a home directly on the pond, we might never leave.

Tonight, we went to our first Cape Cod Baseball League game. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. The season ends in two days!

The Cape Cod Baseball League is the premier summer league in the US. Players from Universities around the country travel to the Cape to play for one of ten teams: Wareham, Bourne, Falmouth, Hyannis, Cotuit, Yarmouth-Dennis, Brewster, Orleans, Harwich and Chatham.

We went to the Cotuit Keteleers game. This is a really beautiful ball field, surrounded by trees. There was a big crowd, as Cotuit has a chance to be in the playoffs. It was very much a small town feel. Kids running around. Locals cheering on their neighborhood teams. In the third inning, a collection of young kids walk through the stands carrying large, black, plastic kettles, yelling "Here come the Kettles". This is how they get donations for the league. There is never a charge to attend a game, and always some opportunities to donate. I am kicking myself for waiting this long to go see a game. It was good fun, and very much a unique Cape Cod experience.
