Flagstaff & the Grand Canyon

Paul

Oh what a difference a 4 hour drive can make. We departed Tucson with 80 degree weather and blue skies, only to arrive 4 hours later in Flagstaff to 30 degree weather and falling snow.

Arriving early in the evening, we quickly checked into our hotel, and drove to downtown Flagstaff for a quick bite and a beer. Out of spite, I refused to change out of my shorts, and proceeded to freeze during this early Spring snowstorm.

The following morning, we departed early for our drive to the Grand Canyon. It is a bit of. drive to get there, and most of the way is quite unimpressive. On arrival, we were slightly surprised that it was quite busy for this time of year. As we approached the south rim of the Grand Canyon, it was eerie. Clouds filled the canyon. A bit of snow was falling. And you could only see a short distance.

However, the sun soon broke through and slowly uncovered the most majestic views.

In a poll of travelers from around the globe, the number one dream destination for visitors to the USA is the Grand Canyon. Americans probably take the Grand Canyon for granted. We shouldn't. It is a natural and a national treasure.
