A visit to Fiji is most certainly not complete without a visit to a traditional Fijian village. Today, we all hopped in the van and drove across the island to visit Bukama Village.
Bukama is the village that most of the Yasawa staff live. It has a school, churches, and lots of homes, with a bucolic location near the ocean.
Our first stop was the school, where we met some of the students, heard how they learn, saw their classrooms, and listened as they sang songs to us. It was wonderful.
We then took a stroll through the village, passing by traditional homes, the village church, and the community center.
At the main hall, there were some ladies selling their wares. This is where we found this adorable child:
A village visit is always a highlight, and the more time you get to spend with Fijians, the happier you will be. . .
Tonight we had a treat - a kava ceremony. The staff at Yasawa taught us the history of kava, and its importance to the Fijian community. And, everyone got a taste.
