Another spectacular local hike in East Falmouth! The Breivogel Conservation Area is stunning. The beginning of this is not very impressive - lots of loose sand and open, exposed areas. But beyond the ponds, there is a forested area that is lush and gorgeous.
We approached the pond and found some clothes sitting on a rock. Sure enough, there was a guy skinny dipping in the pond. Good for him. We offered a quick wave and vacated the area so he could have his privacy.
Once we entered the forested area, we were almost immediately towered over by massive pine trees. Tons of birdlife flitted through the lush foliage. And the path itself was a carpet of pine needles.
We made it into the Shallow Pond Woodlands area (an adjacent park), and we hiked up to Shallow Pond. Not a very creative name for a pond, but it sure beats the unfortunately named Pond 14.
The hike back to our car was really pretty, and with the exception of the skinny dipper, we had the entire area to ourselves. We are exhausting all of our close-in local hikes, and will soon have to start exploring a bit further out to find some new hiking locales.
