Boston - Day 1

Buckle up. Looking for a nice Boston experience, despite the hot, humid weather.

We dropped the car off at a long-term parking garage, and headed to check in to our hotel - the famous Omni Parker House in Boston. As we were constantly reminded, two of the Omni's most famous former employees were Ho Chi Minh and Malcolm X.

After dropping off our bags, we headed out for a quick bite. First stop: Union Oyster House for a bowl of chowder and a beer. Union Oyster House is a fun, very historical restaurant that has been around since 1826. Plus, the chowder is really good.

Directly across from the restaurant is the New England Holocaust Memorial. Despite it being situated amongst busy streets and sights, it is a moving monument.

Boston is a city best seen on foot. Driving is a nightmare - super-aggressive drivers, one-way narrow streets, maddening traffic. And, by foot you can come upon some amazing historic sites like the Old City Hall, some very old cemeteries, and the peaceful Boston Public Gardens and Boston Common.

A walk along Boylston Street brings you to the amazing architecture of the Boston Public Library - well worth a step inside. Just a bit further down the street, you will find the finish line for the Boston Marathon, as well as some memorials to the victims of the Marathon Bombings.

What is the ultimate Boston experience? A Red Sox game. We secured some amazing seats behind home plate for the Sox game (thanks to our niece who works for the team!). Before the game, we met her for a beer at The Bleacher Bar. Just as it sounds - it is a bar hidden under the bleachers of Fenway Park. Before the game, the doors are open and you can see into Fenway. A very cool experience!

There is no finer baseball experience then attending a Red Sox game at Fenway. The BEST baseball park in America.

With that said, the seats are also the most uncomfortable and tight seats in baseball.

Good news: it was awesome to return to Fenway to see the Sox.

Bad news: the Red Sox lost.

Still fun.
