Last day in Hawaii. Time for some beaches.
We drove up north, to visit the area around the luxurious Mauna Lani area. Our first stop was the Kalahuipua'a Historic Park, which is home to ancient archaeological sites. There were caves, fish ponds, and lava rocks everywhere.
Continuing down the trail, we found ourselves at the beautiful beach at Mauna Lani Beach Club. Loads of couples and families were lounging on the sand and playing in the water.
Further north is Hapuna Beach, one of the island's nicest and largest beaches. On a particularly warm day, we enjoyed swimming in the waves, and relaxing on the sand. Hapuna Beach was filled with locals and tourists alike.
Earlier this year, our friends had spent a couple of weeks at the Waikoloa Beach Resort, and they suggested we visit this area. So, we stopped by a local grocery store, purchased a lunch of sushi and snacks, and found the most peaceful spot on the beach at Anaeho'omalu Bay. We watched as kiteboarder zigzagged across the bay, while swimmers floated in the calm waters. It was such a peaceful and relaxing afternoon, we didn't want it to end.
With this, our final day in Hawaii, we simply couldn't break tradition. We returned back to our condo with plenty of time to swim in the pool and start packing our bags. We made one final Happy Hour cocktail, and took our place by the sea, to witness yet another magical sunset.
When we planned this last-minute trip to Hawaii, we were almost disappointed. How spoiled are we, thinking that our trip was 'just to Hawaii'. Sure, we are used to long stays in exotic locations. But Covid has put a stop to these trips. But boy, did Hawaii deliver for us. We had an amazing stay in Hawaii that far exceeded our expectations. It's an overused expression, but one that rings true: this was just what we needed.
