A word about Accommodation

Paul

Hawaii is an expensive place to visit. Expensive to fly there (unless you find super cheap flights as we did), expensive to stay, expensive to eat, etc. But it just doesn't have to break the bank to visit Hawaii.

We always prefer to stay in a house or condo when we are away on holiday. Hotels are for short stays, like an overnight hotel by the airport in order to catch an early flight. Resorts are not our style. Condos and home rentals are always our first choice.

I started looking for a condo on AirBnB, and just couldn't find what we were seeking. I visited other sites, and eventually found a condo rental website based in Hawaii. Before booking, we came up with a list of our requirements: easy access to sites, clean and comfortable (not fancy!), on or near the ocean, a kitchen and washing machine. Pretty short list.

We knew, having done a bit of research on the island, that we would be spending a lot of time exploring. We were not planning on spending much time at our condo, so it did not need to be fancy, and it did not need to be expensive. We cooked most of our own meals, and made our own Happy Hour drinks to take down to the waterfront every evening for sunset.

Are their nicer places to stay in Hawaii? Of course. There are luxury resorts, massive hotels, and thousands of condos. But we found just what we needed to make our Hawaii holiday even more special.

When we look back and reminisce about our stay in Hawaii, we may not remember much about our condo. And that's OK. The important things for us were our experiences, and discovering the diverse and magical nature of this beautiful island.
