Toys & Churches

There are some interesting museums all over Mexico, and San Miguel de Allende is no different, as it is home to La Esquina - the toy museum. Located in a gorgeous building, it has some amazing displays of toys. But I would hardly call them toys. They are most certainly art. Local artisans making amazing miniatures and toys.

A longer stroll through the city helps us find some pretty amazing sights. Take the time to explore hidden streets. The buildings, the streets themselves, the colors, the public art - all awaiting discovery.

One of our favorite pastimes is finding a random park bench and people watching. The main square in San Miguel is a great place for this. Locals walking by, eating a takeout lunch. American tourists mangling Spanish. City workers watering flowers and sweeping the streets. Church-goers walking out of the cathedral.

After the noon church service, we visited the cathedral, as our previous visits were always done when a mass was taking place. We were able to check out different areas of the church, and find some hidden art.

Now, for the most important decision of the day: where to have lunch. We needed a break from local food, so we had lunch at a Thai restaurant. The perfect break from local Mexican food.

After lunch, we walked around the neighborhoods and visited the AirBnB we stayed in when we visited in 2018. It ends up not being too far from our current home, to which we happily returned to sit back, relax, and prepare for a Virtual Happy Hour (a regular event) with some friends.
