Mirador & Pirates

A few days ago, Lisa tripped and hit her foot against the bedframe, breaking her little toe. Ouch! To her credit, she does not want this to slow her down at all.

However, yesterday's walk would have been a bit too difficult, as I wanted to tackle the nearby Mirador. This hilltop observation post offers amazing views of Puerto Vallarta - but at a cost. In order to get there, you have to climb several very steep streets, and then a series of steps (about 300) to reach the top. But once there, the views are spectacular. Every morning and every evening we see loads of people at the Mirador, as we have a great view of it from our balcony. So, I decided to head up by myself.

It was brutal!

The streets are incredibly steep, and the seemingly unending steps were a hard challenge. Perhaps I went too fast by myself, but by the time I reached the summit, I was exhausted. The views, however, were worth it.

Later in the day, we took a walk down to the waterfront, stopping to see our friendly neighborhood cats and chickens.

Today, we went for an epic walk all the way to the Marina. It is over 5 miles, and the hot sunny day made it seem even longer. There were two massive cruise ships at the dock. At the marina, it seems that every boat slip was full and housing either a huge yacht or sailboat. We enjoyed a relaxing lunch along the waterfront, careful not to get too close as there is a neighborhood salt water crocodile - he is huge!

We did a bit of shopping and made it back to our condo in plenty of time to enjoy a lovely sunset.

Now, every night there is a 'pirate' ship full of tourists that goes back and forth along the waterfront. We can hear music, the actors yelling, and at 9:00p every night they set off a handful of fireworks. This has become a routine for us, listening for the nightly fireworks.
