San Miguel de Allende

We are only one day into our visit to San Miguel de Allende, and we are already commenting how much we love it here, and how we can see ourselves living here . . .

As San Miguel does not have an airport, we flew into the bustling city of Queretaro. After clearing Immigration and Customs, we hired an Uber to take us to our obvious first stop: Costco. Seriously. Costco is the perfect place to stock up on supplies. Cases of beer, bottles of tequila, fresh fruit, and freshly made bread. And, where else but Mexico can you get a free tasting of tequila!

We arrived to our AirBnB just outside of the main area of San Miguel. It is fantastic! It has 4 bedrooms/4 bathrooms, and a massive open-air courtyard. Very relaxing.

The weather is close to perfection. San Miguel de Allende is situated at over 6,200 feet in elevation. It offers beautiful, clear blue skies, with warm days, and cool nights.

San Miguel is a walking city, so we started exploring the narrow cobblestone streets and alleys. Along the way to the city center, we found hidden courtyards, amazing murals, and it seems that the entire city is preparing for tomorrow's Dia de los Meurtos (Day of the Dead) celebration.

When we arrived to the main plaza, we stopped in to a small restaurant for a drink and a snack. We were soon serenaded with live music. The main plaza is home to a large church, and a green square with park benches. This is mainly a pedestrian area. And adjacent to the restaurant is a street that is filled with face painters, preparing locals and visitors alike for Dia de los Muertos celebrations.
