Puerto Vallarta Exploring

With the incredible weather we have experienced over the past 3+ months, it is hard to believe that we chose Puerto Vallarta for some hot weather, sun and sand to end our Mexico adventures. But here we are, enjoying stunning weather, with cool ocean breezes cooling off our hillside condo.

The past several days have included some exploratory walks, visits to traditional Mercados, shopping at the modern grocery stores, checking out local restaurants, and even catching up with old friends.

There are a couple traditional Mercados we have visited, including Mercado Vallarta which has some beautiful seafood, and fruit and vegetable vendors. Mercado Emiliano Zapata is in the Zona Romantica, which is a good walk from us, but also has some great fruit and veg vendors.

We have done lots of walking. Walking 4 miles to the grocery store. Walking along the waterfront. Walking the very steep roads that lead down from our hillside condo to the waterfront. Lots of our walks are on steep streets, and some are on nice flat waterfront sidewalks.

Last Friday, we met up with an old friend with whom I went to high school. It was so great to see him and his stunning condo in the Romantic Zone. It was wonderful catching up over some drinks and a nice dinner. We ended up returning to the same area on Saturday morning to meet him at the Farmers Market.

We have been lucky enough to find some good local family-run restaurants, away from the crush of tourists. We have had some amazing Birria tacos, delicious Mexican food, and for a huge change of pace, we walked all the way to the modern shopping mall near the marina and enjoyed the air-conditioned food court.

Our routine in PV is from a dream. Wake up and witness the sun brightening up the entire city. Watching as the boats zip by along the coast. Have a delicious breakfast at our condo before walking down for some exploring. Find a local restaurant for lunch. Take the long and steep road back to our condo, quickly changing into swimsuits for a cold but refreshing swim in our pool. Enjoy a happy hour snack (guacamole or jicama with Tajin powder) accompanied with a shot of tequila and a cold beer. Nighly witness to the stunning sunsets. And the nearly constant mention of our now daily mantra: "How lucky are we."
