Oaxaca to San Miguel de Allende via CDMX

Today was a VERY long day of travel. We departed our house at 9:30a for the Oaxaca airport, only to find a somewhat long, very slow moving line for checkin. Not to worry - we were at the airport very early, and had plenty of time.

Our flight to Mexico City was uneventful. Gorgeous views out the window, and with less than one hour flight time, it was over before we knew it.

There were just a handful of people at baggage claim, which tells me that the overwhelming majority of passengers on our flight were connecting elsewhere. Other spots in Mexico? Flights to the USA?

Within minutes, we had our bags and were in a taxi headed towards the Terminal Norte bus station. Having checked our bus schedule the day before and no longer seeing our departure time on the website, I immediately headed to the ETN desk to enquire as to the status of our bus. Instead of checking on our bus, I just asked if we could exchange our tickets for our no-longer-scheduled 4p bus for the next available departure at 2:30p. Easy. A couple minutes later, we had confirmed seats, and enough time to grab some tacos and snacks for the ride.

The bus itself was luxurious. The seats are massive - like business class on a flight. Each seat has a seatback television screen. There are both Mens and Women's toilets in the back. There must have been only 8 rows of 3 seats, so there was a ton of space for us.

The drive to San Miguel was beautiful. The urban sprawl of Mexico City soon opened to farmland, then desert landscapes. Plenty of hills and mountains, and the setting sun danced across the hillsides.

There was a ton of traffic, and several slowdowns, which caused our 3 1/2 bus trip to extend beyond 4 hours. Upon arrival at the SMA bus terminal, we grabbed our bags, ordered an Uber, and headed to our AirBnB. The management company that oversees our AirBnB had a representative meet us there. It is located on a cobblestone street, and arriving at night, it was very dark. Dare I say, even a bit ominous.

The door opened into a stunning home.

We were given a brief tour of the house, and it is amazing. Two bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, 3 fireplaces, an expansive lower patio and lawn area, and a second story terrace with views directly into San Miguel de Allende. This is definitely one of the nicest AirBnB's we have ever visited. Stunning.

I can't believe we are here for one month. There is so much to see and explore in San Miguel and the surrounding areas. But I am afraid we will never want to leave this house.
