Museums, Posh Polanco & Unreal Tacos

In the heart of the posh Polanco neighborhood, we found the Soumaya Museum. The exterior of the building is so sleek and so modern.

While the exterior of the Soumaya is breathtaking, it is nothing compared to what can be found inside. This is truly one of the most impressive museums we have ever visited. Name a master of art and you will find it here. The top floor is dedicated to some of the masters, including many Rodin sculptures, Renoir paintings and sculptures, Monet paintings, and so much more. And this was just the top floor!

In the galleries, there are European masters and Mexican icons. Look to your left and see a Van Gogh painting. To your right, find a Salvador Dali sculpture. In the Mexican artists section, see Tamayo masterpieces, next to sketches by Diego Rivera, including an enormous pencil sketch of a mural. This is truly an awe-inspiring museum, and we are embarrassed that we did not even know about this place before today. We could return many times and find more and more stunning works of art.

To take a break, we walked over to the Telmex Tower and found a grocery store, where we compiled an impromptu picnic, complete with Iberian ham, some fancy cheese, and a tiny bottle of wine.

Directly across from the Soumaya Museo is the Museo Jumex, which houses some incredibly impressive modern art. I must say I am not that into modern art, but even I can recognize super high-quality art.

We soon suffered from art overload, so we decided to enjoy the stunning day and go for a long walk. We found Avenue Presidente Masaryk, which is considered Mexico City's Rodeo Drive. Super fancy homes, and very high end shopping, all protected by a rather impressive display of police and military presence.

We took a short detour away from the rich and famous and headed to Parque America, which has loads of trees and some cool statues.

Across from the park, we found Parroquia de San Augustin, with its rather severe exterior, and brilliant stained glass windows.

Just south is the huge Parque Lincoln, complete with a monument to Abraham Lincoln, a statue of Martin Luther King Jr, and some very cool art and statues.

Today was a lot of walking. A LOT! So, we grabbed an Uber back to our apartment, and realized that we were really just too tired to make dinner. So, we walked 3 blocks north from our apartment to find Taco's El Guero. This is the epitome of a neighborhood taco shop. Super busy, with patrons standing at tall tables, devouring tasty tacos. The tacos are amazing, and we will be back here as regulars, we are sure of it!
