Murals, Museos and Marimbas

The street art and murals in Oaxaca are unreal.

Today, we headed to the Museo de las Culturas. We paid our entry fee, and put on our masks (masks are everywhere in Oaxaca, and some museums, churches, Mercados, and other places require the wearing of masks). What we found in the Museo was a fantastic building with some national treasures.

The building itself was a former convent. Come to find out, there are loads of former convents, not just in Oaxaca but all over Mexico. This one was converted to a museum of culture, and holds some amazing historical pieces. But the building itself is a star, with dramatic sights around every corner, and open windows that frame the outdoors perfectly.

The historical treasures and artwork in the museum are fantastic.

The real showcase is the room that highlights the amazing treasures that were found at Tomb 7 at the nearby archaelogical sight Monte Alban. The gold figures, the jewelry, the jade covered scull. It was all amazing, and we can't wait to visit Monte Alban!

We walked around the Centro to experience more of the buildings, sights, and feel of this beautiful city.

For lunch, we went to a local Oaxaca restaurant the features home made Oaxaca cuisine. Yes, it was delicious.

We returned to the Zocalo in the evening to hear some great local music, and see some of the local folks dancing.

On the way back to our place, we saw what looked to be a camp-in protest. Dozens of tents in the middle of the street, with protest signs, and loads of people. I still don't know what was the cause, but I like the idea of a 'camp in'.
