Jalatlaco, Xochimilco & a Fancy Lunch

A bustling Friday in Oaxaca. Loads of tourists exploring the Centro and Zocalo area. Too many people, so we decided to limit our time here today and head to other neighborhoods. But first, a Choco Mio from Mayordomo. Damn, this is good chocolate milk!

We waked around the cool Jalatlaco area. So many cool murals, buildings, cafes, art installations. A very nice area.

We walked across the northern section of the city to the Xochimilco neighborhood to visit a very good restaurant - Ancestral Cocina Tradicional. Located against the old city aqueducts, it has a cool vibe. Open to the sky. Wood burning ovens where they are making fresh tortillas. Lisa had a beef dish with mole roja - delicious. I had a fish dish with green mole (cilantro-based, so Lisa couldn't eat it). They also brought out a grilled bone marrow, that they scraped onto the top of my dish. It was fantastic.

To walk off this extravagant lunch, we headed up the hill to visit the Auditorio Guelaguetza. This is a tented venue at the top of the hill, seen from almost all spots around Oaxaca. It is a pretty steep walk up the sidewalk, and then once at the auditorium, we climbed all the stairs to the top. Great views, and it would be a very cool place to see an event.

We decided to walk all the way down to our house. There is a sidewalk on the very busy 4-lane highway that meanders down the hill. We walked above all the neighborhoods, looking down on our area, and recognizing sights with a very different viewpoint. It was a long, long walk, but cool to see from this vantage point.
