Dining in Playa

Like any holiday, dining out is a series of hits and misses. You can't win them all, but for the most part, we have been extremely happy with many of our restaurant choices.

Who would have thought that Playa del Carmen has such great Italian food. Our favorite was Trattoria del Centro. Very authentic Italian dishes, and a wood-fired pizza oven. We even returned here later in the week for take-away pizza.

Two other really good pizza places are Piola and Bella Italia, both of which have wood-fired pizza ovens.

The beautiful and lush atmosphere at La Cueva del Chango is highlighted by good service. This restaurant is a bit of a splurge, but a nice experience.

For beach tacos and cold beer, you will not be disappointed by a visit to La Buena Vida, along the beach in Akumal.

In Playa, we found amazing traditional Mexican tacos and more at El Fogon. So good, we went twice!

And a visit to Playa is not complete without trying ceviche. Our favorite was from Los Aquachiles. Good variety and super-fresh.

Overall, the dining out in Playa del Carmen was really good. Who would have thought that the Italian food in Playa would be such a huge draw.
