Colonia, Roma, Polanco, Miguel Hidalgo

Paul

Mondays are pretty quite in CDMX, as most of the museums are closed. Perfect day to explore. We walked around Colonia, Roma, parts of Polanco and Miguel Hidalgo.

Our first stop was one of the few museums that was actually open: Casa Guillermo Tovar de Teresa. This is part of the amazing Soumaya museum group. A very pretty home with some nice furniture and artwork. Interestingly, this is the place where we heard the most English being spoken. There were 3 or 4 couples who were there, speaking English. We must all be using the same online guides.

We walked south into the Roma neighborhood and circled back towards Chapultepec Park. We stopped at the Estela de Luz, a modern monument dedicated to the revolution, and the Centro de Cultura Digital museum which is located underneath the monument. Unfortunately it was closed on a Monday.

So, lets go to the park. Nope. Gates are closed and locked. Everything is seemingly closed on a Monday.

We had read that the Camino Real Polanco was a really cool hotel, so we walked north to find it. And was it ever. A super cool hotel with amazing architectural features and brilliant colors.

The coolest feature? A whirling fountain out front that creates amazing waves. Absolutely mesmerizing.

From there, we meandered through the Polanco and Miguel Hidalgo neighborhoods, admiring the pretty homes and nice shops and cafes.

On the way back to our apartment, we took a different direction and came across this amazing concrete church, with some stunning stained glass windows.
