CDMX with a visitor!

We have a visitor! Our son arrived last night from very cold and very snowy Denver. He was thrilled to be leaving the cold, and arriving to the warm weather of Mexico City.

We are so excited to show him around, and share our favorite places with him. When he arrived last night, his first request was simple: dinner at his favorite La Casa de Tono. This place always delivers.

Our first adventure today was walking around our neighborhood, and then heading down to Paseo de la Reforma. We then hopped in an Uber to visit Centro. We thought he would enjoy the view from the top of Torre Latinoamericana, the tallest building in the Centro area. At the top of the building, they have an outdoor observation deck where you can enjoy 360 degree views of the city. Unfortunately, there was lots of pollution today that inhibited our views, but it was awesome being up there and recognizing so many places we had visited.

After descending, we headed in the Centro area.

I guess climbing the elevator to the top of the tower made us hungry, so our first stop was Los Cocuyos for some awesome tacos. He was rightfully impressed.

All around us were some cool spots to visit, including churches, a museum, and the Biblioteca Lerdo de Tejada. This is a research library located in an old church. The walls are covered with psychedelic murals. Very cool. We also visited the Gran Hotel Ciudad de México to show him the amazing stained glass ceiling. Along the way, we grabbed some paletas, as it was starting to get hot!

We walked across the main plaza, towards the Palacio Nacional. We were hoping to get in to see the famous Diego Rivera murals, but they were already at maximum guests for the day. So instead, we went to the amazing museum next door. Amazing global art and historical displays. Very impressive.

The Zocalo was plenty busy today, with huge crowds. We walked towards Templo Mayor and had a peak at the ancient ruins. We did not go in the museum, but had some cool views from outside. From there, we walked down to Palacio Belles Artes, as he wanted to go inside and see the impressive building, murals, and art displays.

By then, we were pretty tired, and pretty hungry. So, we needed a place to sit and a have a quick snack. Where else than La Casa de Tono! There is one of these restaurants seemingly everywhere. Great place for a quick and inexpensive snack.

We returned to our apartment to relax before dinner. And what a dinner we had! We decided to go on a Taco Walk. Three local taco stands, all within 5 blocks of our apartment. It was hard to pick a winner, as they were all outstanding. Perhaps a 3-way tie?
