Drive to Porto

We woke early and took an Uber to the Lisbon airport, so we can pick up our rental car. Along the way, we saw this very cool Roman aquaduct.

While it was a bit of a challenge to navigate out of the city, once on the main highways, it was very easy driving. The roads are in excellent condition, and the rest stops have fuel and restaurants (very clean!). The tolls are really expensive, but the high quality of the driving makes up for it.

Along the way, we decided to make a stop in the city of Coimbra. This is a charming University city, with some great architecture.

As we approached Porto, we realized that it was about to be rush hour. Combined with rainy conditions, it was a bit of a challenge finding our apartment building. But once found, we parked the car, emptied our bags, and started exploring. The car park had a rather tight entrance.

We are staying in a cool neighborhood, and there is a brewpub next door. For dinner, we found a local restaurant serving the region's most famous sandwich - the Francesinha. It was both delicious and dangerous!
